Solton Manor

Solton Manor is one of Kent’s most historic and picturesque country house wedding venues, nestled between Dover and Deal.

I was asked to design the Old Stables, located in the heart of the estate into a stunning indoor ceremony room. This new addition offers couples an elegant and versatile space to exchange their legal vows or blessings with up to 130 guests indoors.

Australia Pool House & out door kitchen

This project was designed completely remotely with the help of a fantastic architect in Australia. The original pool house was completely knocked down and redesigned.

The outdoor kitchen is behind the main house and offers another outside seating area.

Becket House

This Georgian home in Canterbury, Kent has been fully renovated to add some colour to suit the clients style. The renovation has repurposed the original kitchen into a laundry room and the dining room has been redesigned as the boot room. A cupboard on the top floor has been converted into a shower room and 2 small bedrooms have been combined to become a large primary bedroom with a dressing area.

This client's strong sense of style and the home’s classic Georgian architecture made this project a pleasure to design.

This front room is south facing and has amazing light throughout the day. It is a sociable adult space with no TV and I wanted to created plenty of seating and surfaces to put down a drink.

The victorian fireplace is the focal point of the room and the gallery wall is made of sentimental pieces to make a the room a personal space.

Project Townhouse

This project was originally two 5 bedroom townhouses that were joined together to make one 7 bedroom house. It includes a bespoke white handless kitchen with pocket door details, a snug with feature wallpaper and arched windows, a home office and craft room with magnetic walls, a gaming/cinema room, a games room with a bespoke pull down bed for an extra guest bedroom and a gym.

It was a very fast project and took a year from design to photographing.

Katie's Bathroom

A contemporary bathroom update with a striped tile in the shower and a pattern tiled floor. The zellige tiles add texture and the wooden vanity and bathroom cabinet adds warmth to the room.

As you can see from the before images below, there was a window in the shower which was rotting from the water and the the bathroom lacked storage. The roll top bath took up too much room and didn’t work in the space.

Howland House

This house was a new build and the brief was to add some character. The client really loved Arts and Crafts and wanted to bring a bit of this into her home without it looking too out of place. We added paneling, bespoke shelving and a window seat. The wall lights frame the contrast velvet sofa and the curtains are a Morris&co print which tie all the colours together.

As you can see from the before photos before the room was a complete blank canvas.

The Pool House

The pool house was originally a barn that was completely converted into a pool house with a games room, two changing rooms, a yoga room, gym and a wash up area. The outside area accommodates an XXL pool with sun loungers, a BBQ area, a dining area for 12 and a pavilion. See below for the before images.

Galaxy game and cinema room

This multifunctional game and cinema room was designed for grandchildren of varying ages and for a mix of both girls and boys. The galaxy mural sets the scene and the sparkle light ceiling feature sets the mood. The room has a games table that has table tennis, pool and air hockey. The bright pop of yellow on the sofa adds a splash of colour and comfort to play computer games or watch a movie.

As you can see from the before images the room has gone from an unused storage area to a lively games and cinema room.

Decking and garden

The crumbling decking needed completely knocking down and rebuilding. This was done with composite decking and vertical larch cladding. The house was slightly extended to fit in a washing machine and the door location was changed to add more light into the kitchen. A log store was also built underneath the stairs.

The Johnsons' Cloakroom

This Victorian cloakroom is in 3 sections. The stained glass window, the fireplace and the mirror as you enter. I wanted to pick up the green in the stained glass window so I painted the frame off black to really make it sing. I also painted the door green to continue the theme and make it a bit more fun.

The fireplace had original tiles so I wanted to leave them and paint the orange wood mantle the same off black that I have used around the house.

The focal point as you enter the room is the chest of drawers with the mirror. This reflects the stained glass window opposite.

You can see the before photos are a bit bland and pretty for what I wanted for the room.

Island Wall

This project was an e-design done in lockdown and designed completely remotely. I had the measurements of the rooms and was able to source everything online. I eventually went to the property to style and photograph it.

I am about to design the bathroom for this property so watch this space.

Ospringe House

The front room of project Ospringe is the home office with the option of a spare bedroom as the sofa is a sofa bed. The Georgian property has beautiful high ceilings and arc details which I wanted to highlight.

The hallway had a false ceiling which we removed and restored it to its original height.

For the living room, the brief was to keep a deep purple colour, so I changed it to more of a rich aubergine colour. The sideboard was the focus for the room so I used the red and pink highlights around the room in the accessories.

The master bedroom was modernised with a bespoke fitted wardrobe and new furniture. I moved the bed to take center stage in front of the window and designed a fitted wardrobe with a central mirror to reflect the natural light into the room. The bed is beautifully framed by the linen curtains.

The galley kitchen was opened up with shelving and beautiful accessories. A breakfast bar was added by the window to allow for some seating.

Raphael & Serena's Bathroom

Set in a Victorian family home, this bathroom was originally the family bathroom. Over the years it had been turned into a very large shower room, so we wanted to change it back to its original use to make more of the space, include a bath and a shower, and accentuate the room’s original features.

The original sash windows had been lovingly restored and the pine cabinet had been stripped back from layers of paint to its original glory. The Victorian floorboards were used to make the shelves inside and the ancient water tank inside it was removed and put in the attic to allow for extra storage.

A roll top bath and basin were updated with Honed Brazilian Black Slate floor tiles. The bath underside, claw feet and skirting were painted with Farrow and Ball “Off Black” to complement the tiles. A small separate shower was placed in the corner for practicality and to allow the bath to shine in its original spot.

A beautiful mural was put in place above the bath to bring the room together. A modern mirror is placed directly opposite the mural and the room creates a perfect harmony of traditional and contemporary.

See below for the original photos. (The original bathroom suite and cabinet was recycled on freecycle.)

The Johnsons' Kitchen

The kitchen is the heart of the home and here we wanted to make it open and decluttered. The house is set in Canterbury and is a beautiful Victorian detached, with many period features.

The kitchen was designed with entertaining and a busy family in mind. It has stunning dark parquet flooring and dark bottom cabinets. As the kitchen is northeast facing it doesn’t get much sun so we painted the top cabinets lighter as a contrast. The kitchen was brought right up to date, whilst highlighting the beautiful bay window, original wooden cabinets and high mantlepiece.

There was nothing wrong with the washing machine to replace it other than it was the wrong colour and not integrated, so we opted to paint it the same colour as the cabinets so it wouldn’t stick out too much.

As you can see from the before photos at the bottom of the page the transformation is huge.

Whitstable Dressing Room and En suite

Originally a bedroom in Victorian detached property. We wanted to change the room into an en-suite and dressing room with a wall and door separating the two rooms. A window was added to allow natural light into the en suite. An extra wall was also added for the shower room. The bath was relocated to the original bathroom.

The dressing room was designed with bespoke fitted wardrobes and oak floor with underfloor heating, while the dressing table overlooks the private back garden. The vanity is a french antique cabinet with a beautiful black marble top which was customised with a basin.

See the before photo before the room was divided in to two rooms.

The Garden Apartment

The Garden Apartment was originally built as servants’ quarters in a 1902 house but had been repurposed as a rental property. With a complete refurbishment, the brief was to modernise it whilst making it practical and inviting. Set close to Canterbury city centre and Kent University it could be for a romantic weekend away or a working professional.

We needed to maximise the light whilst adding character. We kept the walls a pale grey throughout, while the dining area and reading nook was a deeper blue tone for a relaxing environment. With light parquet flooring throughout and beautiful oak shelves were added to bring warmth to the rooms.
